La Scala (Italian: Teatro alla Scala), is a world renowned opera house in Milan, Italy. The theater was built in 1778 and originally known as the New Royal-Ducal Theater at La Scala. Most of Italy’s great opera artists, and many of the singers from around the world, have appeared at La Scala during the past 200 years. The theater is recognized as one of the leading opera and ballet theaters in the world and is home to the La Scala Theater Chorus, La Scala Theater Ballet and La Scala Theater Orchestra. It also has an associate school, known as the La Scala Theater Academy which offers professional training in music, dance, stage craft and stage management.
