Icon of the Seas Embarks on Inaugural Voyage

The highly anticipated Icon of the Seas, a revolutionary offering from Royal Caribbean, has moved a step closer to its grand debut in January 2024. In a momentous journey from the Meyer Turku shipyard in Turku, Finland, this cutting-edge vessel sailed the open ocean for the first time, completing its maiden sea trials with flying colors.

A Milestone in Shipbuilding

As of June 22, 2023, the results are official: Icon of the Seas is shipshape and ready to set a new standard for luxury vacations. Following its triumphant maiden voyage, Icon has returned to the Meyer Turku shipyard for the continuation of its construction. The initial sea trials were a success, with over four days of extensive testing of the latest technologies and equipment onboard. Everything from the ship’s mighty engines to its sophisticated noise and vibration levels were scrutinized by an army of specialists.

A Team Effort

The construction of the Icon is no small feat, requiring the dedication and expertise of over 2,000 specialists, along with a fleet of four robust tugboats each weighing between 37 to 67 tons. This dedicated crew covered hundreds of miles, dedicating over 350 hours to ensure the ship is ready for its next round of sea trials set to occur later this year.
