Emirates Team New Zealand Wins the 36th America’s Cup

At the beginning of Day 7 in the 36th America’s Cup AC-75 Sailboat Race Emirates Team New Zealand had 6 points and Luna Rossa Prada Pirelli had 3 points. The pressure was on the Italians because the Kiwis only needed one race to win the trophy.

The Kiwis took the final race by 600 meters as they sailed across the finish line 46 seconds ahead of the Italians and ending their dreams of victory. The race was decided within the first few seconds across the start line as Emirates Team immanently split the course and took the lead.

Because the Emirates Team AC-75 is the faster boat and the teams were on opposite sides of the race course the Kiwis were able to take the lead and expand it on every leg of the race. In previous races the Italian’s were able to keep the New Zealand in check by employing blocking and covering maneuvers. Without that ablity, Emirates Team was unstoppable.
