Leonardo da Vinci – Renaissance Man

Leonardo da Vinci is probably most well known for his famous paintings of the Mona Lisa and The Last Supper. But his Painting was only one of the many amazing abilities that he possessed.

Born in 1452, Leonardo da Vinci could best be described as a polymathic person. He was skilled in painting, sculpture, architecture, music, science, math, engineering, anatomy, geology, cartography, botany, and writing.

Today we view Leonardo as the archetype for the Renaissance Man because he is the type of person who thinks outside the box.

In the dark ages, many people were very superstitious. Leonardo used logical and empirical methods that were unheard of in his time.

He is credited with first conceptualizing a helicopter, a tank, concentrated solar power, a calculator, the double hull, and outlined a rudimentary theory of plate tectonics.

As a scientist, Leonardo made important discoveries in anatomy, civil engineering, optics, and hydrodynamics.

As an inventor, his inventions ranged from an automated bobbin winder and a machine to test tensile strength of wire. These examples are just a few of his remarkable achievements.
