Yopps Cove is located in an area of Virginia known as the “Northern Neck.” In the 18th century, it was dubbed the “Athens of America”. Steeped in history, three presidents, George Washington, James Madison, and James Monroe, were born on the Northern Neck of Virginia.

I anchored here a while back for a short rest on a long trip and the anchorage was great except for a few things. Carter Creek is home to a few resorts and golf clubs making basic supplies expensive.

The closest store, other than yacht club ship stores and tourist shops, is a long 45-minute walk. Another issue is the weekend motorboat traffic, it can get heavy creating the never-ending wake for anyone on the hook.

The anchorage is easy to find, it is the first inlet on your starboard side of the Rappahannock River after you pass under the Interstate 3 bridge after leaving the Chesapeake Bay.

The anchorage can get crowded on the weekends but if you refer to The Waterway Guide there are two more anchorages on Carter Creek. You can buy fuel at the Tides Inn fuel dock. It’s on the Calf Pasture Point, where the Carter Creek splits.
